We hope you had the chance to participate in the broad range of events during last week’s TechWeek, designed to showcase the value and impact of technology on the lives of New Zealanders. It was a roaring success and you can check out some of the highlights here.
During TechWeek24, TechWomen ran a Women Across the Generations series to showcase the career journeys of women from Gen X, Millennials, and Gen Z. The series featured interviews with Amanda Watson, Esther Wafula, Vanessa Leite, Meg Ryan, and Amanda Veldman, and discussed the stereotypes of their generation, the impact of ShadowTech on our younger wāhine, and the opportunities available for women in tech today.
Speaking of ShadowTech, we’re very excited for this year’s ShadowTech Day. Our programme offers girls in years nine to 11 an opportunity to discover the world of tech, spark their curiosity and explore career pathways. We’re showcasing real roles because we know there’s a tech job to suit everyone, and we’re inspiring girls to join Aotearoa’s fastest growing and highest paid sector.
Each year, we have more industry organisations register than we have students and we need your help to promote ShadowTech Day directly to schools in your area. If you or your team know children attending secondary school, please forward this email to their digital tech teacher or careers advisor. You can find ready to print posters and flyers for schools to share here.
Registrations for both host organisations and schools are open now so if you’d like to participate, or know of a school you can share this with, get in quick! Registrations close on Monday 3 June.
