100TechWomen: 100 Careers in Technology

#

As a woman in tech, I have been involved in mentoring, and sharing career advice with many young women.  It has always given me a great sense of joy when I see these talented women go on to have successful careers in the technology industry.  So, I started thinking, ‘how can we do more to reach young women, and provide them with outstanding role models in the tech sector?’  100TechWomen is the answer.

With the support of NZTech, TechWomen have developed a series of short video profiles, highlighting a wide range of women’s success stories throughout the tech sector. Over the last two weeks, TechWomen’s Exec Director, Edwina Mistry, and I have interviewed the first 30 women with inspiring career journeys; and what an amazing experience! We have met women working in a wide range of industries and job types, who have generously and sincerely shared their career journeys to inspire the next generation.

The reality is that not all girls have access to, or know a woman in the technology industry. Due to misconceptions about the industry, and without the guidance of a role model, they may not think a career in technology is for them. The wide range of 100TechWomen profiles will provide girls a variety of female role models, across all industries, at different career levels. The digital delivery of the 100TechWomen career stories in an easy-to-digest video library will be easily accessible to the social-media savvy next generation of women.

We hope to complete all 100 video interviews in the next few months, and make these available as a resource for young women to see the endless career pathways available in the technology sector.
